In what could be seen as a decline in viewer interest, TAM data for the second week of IPL, which was also the first full week of the tournament, indicates that the ratings of IPL have gone down by over 10 per cent compared with last year’s second week’s ratings among the core TG of CS 15+ M ABC on all-India basis.
According to data sourced from TAM subscribers, the 11 games played in the second week of IPL6 have fetched an average rating of 4.3 TVR against 4.8 TVR for 10 games played last year.
The viewership in this TG has been on a constant decline from the second season of the tournament.
In the inaugural IPL, the 9 matches in second week had averaged 7.0 TVR which slipped to 6.4 TVR in the second season for the same number of games. It went slightly up in the third season courtesy the higher number of games in the second week where 11 matches averaged 6.5 TVR. The 12 games in IPL4 averaged 5.2 TVR while 10 games in IPL5 fetched 4.8 TVR.
The first 5 games of IPL6 had fetched 5.3 TVR against 5.1 TVR for the first 6 games of IPL5.
The reach of IPL has grown this year to 138.6 million for the first 16 games compared to the last edition’s 123.9 million for 16 games. However, even the absolute reach has shown an increase, the percentage of reach compared with the universe has seen a decline.
The first 16 games of IPL6 reached 54% of the current universe which is 257 million while IPL5 had reached 59% of the universe which was 211 million for the same number of games.
As far as internet is concerned IPL is the best place for indian viewers to meet and enjoy it socially so we can say that it has become more social
