Angelo Mathews has beaten Yuvraj Singh in the race to be the new captain of Pune Warriors for IPL 6 this year. Even though Yuvraj was considered the best contender to be handed over the reigns of the team after Micahel Clarke was forced out of IPL due to injury, Mathews has managed to pocket the top job. Sourav Ganguly captained the side last year.
Managing Director of Sahara Adventure Sports Limited, Sushanto Roy said on Thursday that the decision was taken by some senior players and team management, with a special mention of it being “unanimous”.
Roy said in a press statement, “We had many options of international and national cricketers to choose from within the existing squad but we chose Mathews as our captain as we are confident of his leadership abilities. All the senior players in the team are happy with the choice and it is a joint decision taken by the senior players and team management. We now have a correct mix of youth and experience to launch an aggressive IPL Season 6 campaign.”
Mathews reacted on this saying, “It’s a great honour to be offered the captaincy and I am grateful to the team management and franchise owners for the faith shown in me. For me personally this is a great chance to gain leadership experience working with a multi-national squad and a very exciting opportunity given the enormous talent within our young squad.”

The cricket team is promoted by Chennai based Sun Group, owners of low cost airline SpiceJet.

Australia's Simon Helmot has been named as the assistant coach of the new IPL franchise, Hyderabad Sunrisers, for the upcoming edition of the Twenty20 league. Sunrisers have also appointed Jade Roberts as their trainer, Theo Kapakoulakis as physio and Sankapani the team manager apart from Helmot.
The 41-year-old Helmot is the coach of Victoria Bushrangers in the Ryobi one-day Cup, Australia's domestic one-day competition, and of Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League. He began his coaching career at the age of 25 and also coached the Australia 'A' side which toured India in 2008. Former Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis had already been named as the bowling consultant by Sunrisers.
Australia's Tom Moody is the head coach of the team while Kris Srikkanth and VVS Laxman are the team mentors. Some of the star players in the franchise include South Africa's Dale Steyn and Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara.

PepsiCo is not only the title sponsor for IPL but it has also signed a co-presenting broadcast sponsorship deal with Multi Screen Media (MSM), owners of the SET Max channel that will be broadcasting Pepsi-IPL 2013.
The association will extend to PepsiCo's food and beverage portfolio, including Pepsi, Mountain Dew, 7UP, Mango Slice, Mirinda, Aquafina, Tropicana, Lay's, Kurkure, Aliva and Quaker Oats.

PLEASE REMOVE CHENNAI AS IPL VENUE
With less than 10 days to go before the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) begins, politics is making an impact on the cricket tournament. Sources say that IPL franchisees have told the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to drop Chennai as a venue for matches, if the current political situation over Sri Lankan Tamils remains.
Protests have been on in the city over the UN resolution on Sri Lankan war crimes against Tamils. Sources say that IPL franchisees are unwilling to drop Sri Lankan players from games in Chennai.
The BCCI is worried by the development and is yet to communicate its decision to franchisees, added the sources. Earlier, Hyderabad too was dropped as a venue because of the Telengana unrest.
The US resolution against Sri Lanka over alleged human rights violations was passed at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva. While 25 countries, including India, voted in favour of the resolution, 13 countries, including Pakistan, voted against it and eight countries abstained from voting.

In weekdays tickets will cost from around 500 to 19500 INR and in weekend days they will cost around 750 to 21500 INR.Mumbai Indians match has a special box which costs RS 23000.
IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils on Friday announced the ticket rates for their IPL home matches at Feroze Shah Kotla and they have decided to treat their home match against Mumbai Indians as a 'derby' contest with a hike in price for that particular game.
The online tickets for the matches in Delhi are now available at www.delhidaredevils.com. The online ticket sales for the two home matches in Raipur will be announced on March 19.
The Daredevils' game against Mumbai Indians on Sunday, April 21st is their most high-profile home match which will again have Virender Sehwag pitted against Sachin Tendulkar.
According to the ticket rates released for the six games at the Feroze Shah Kotla, the minimum rates for tickets on weekdays is 500 while weekend matches will have the lowest denomination at Rs 750.
However, the lowest denomination for the Mumbai Indians match on April 21 will be Rs 1000.
There are eight slabs of tickets for weekdays, starting from Rs 500 to 19,500. The tickets for the weekend matches range from Rs 750 to Rs 21,500 while the MI match has the Super Hospitality boxes being priced at Rs 23,000.

Delhi Daredevils has traded Ross Taylor for left-arm fastmedium bowler Ashish Nehra with Pune Warriors India during the IPL Player Trading Window.
The 33-year-old Nehra was part of the Delhi Daredevils squad in the 2009 and 2010 seasons. His best IPL performance was in 2009 when he took 19 wickets from 13 matches.
“Ashish Nehra will constitute an integral part of our attack in the 2013 season. We were the best team at the league stage in 2012, and with a player like him around, we are confident that we will go the distance,” TA Sekar, Head (Cricket), GMR Sports, said.
Delhi Daredevils had acquired Taylor from his previous team, Rajasthan Royals, ahead of the 2012 season, to cover for the absence of David Warner in the first half of the tournament and Kevin Pietersen in the second half.
Delhi Daredevils appoint Snape as their performance coach
Delhi Daredevils has appointed former England cricketer Jeremy Snape as the team’s Performance Coach for the Pepsi Indian Premier League season. Snape, who is acknowledged to have helped South Africa in its journey as the top Test-playing team, will work with the coaching and support staff.
“We are happy to welcome Jeremy as Performance Coach,” said GMR Sports’ Head (Cricket) TA Sekar. “We believe he has the right credentials to help the Delhi Daredevils achieve its goals. We are sure he will bring in fresh ideas and help the coaching staff bring the best out of the players in a high performance environment.

Rajasthan Royals on Thursday signed rising left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh along with three other young players for the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League, commencing April 3.
Mumbai spinner Harmeet, the IPL side added talented Kerala batsmen Sachin Baby and Sanju Samson and Jharkhand paceman Rahul Shukla to their squad.
20-year-old Harmeet has represented India in two Under-19 ICC World Cups in 2010 and 2012. In the 2012 U-19 World Cup, he was one of the main pillars of India, helping win the title with his economy rate of 3.02.
Kerala's 18-year-old wicket-keeper Samson has been representing his state team since his Ranji debut in 2011 against Vidarbha.
The budding U-19 Asia Cup star hit two centuries in the Ranji Trophy last season and attended the Rajasthan Royals selection trials on January 27, 28 & 29th. The right-handed Samson was recently appointed vice-captain of the Kerala team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Baby has been a consistent performer for Kerala in the last few years and was among the top run-scorers in the invitational Buchi Babu Tournament and Vijay Hazare Trophy for his state.
The 24-year-old has played 14 first class and domestic matches, and has scored 492 runs with a highest score of 104 at an average of 49.20.
Rahul, 22-year-old right-arm medium pacer, played in the IPL in the 2010 and 2012 seasons and took seven wickets at 15.71 from four Twenty20 games with an economy rate of 7.17.

"To me, we take India as one large mass of audience. Cricket today is experimenting and there is a big opportunity. If you look at regional channels they are doing reasonably well. There is no reason why you cannot hear sports commentary in Bengali, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil or Marathi. To me, that is another opportunity to expand cricket's fan-base,Every sport needs to market itself well. We are a one-sport country and that is possibly because 'cricket' has marketed itself well.I was delighted to see the Hockey India League coming on television,Cricket is an advertiser-friendly sport. On the other hand the format of football is such that it does not suit advertisers. My fear is that it should not lead to tinkering of the format which is not in the interest of the game,As long as one source of revenue is the only source of revenue, you will be playing into the hands of power brokers. That will lead to a downward spiral.The amount of money a broadcaster gets for subscription revenue in UK, US or even in South Africa or Australia, when compared to that in India, it is really small. The contract is for five years. PepsiCo pipped Airtel, which had offered Rs. 316 crore, to win the title sponsorship for the Twenty20 tournament for Rs. 396.8 crore. PepsiCo's bid is nearly twice the amount paid by IPL's previous title sponsor DLF, which ended its association with the event in August this year.
Market watchers say Pepsi-Co's association will help tweak the tournament's brand imagery by establishing a stronger consumer connect. While industry experts refused to put a number to the expected rise in IPL's valuation, media buying agencies say PepsiCo comes across as a more "relevant fit". "We definitely expect PepsiCo to increase IPL's brand value. There has been a lot of talk about brand IPL going down. But instead there has been a manifold increment in most of the rights and properties we have sold, which is a good sign," IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla told. Media buying agencies, however, say therehas been a decline in the brand value of IPL as compared to the initial two seasons, primarily because investments were higher as compared to returns in terms of viewership and valuations. According to industry estimates , IPL's valuation for the five seasons has remained close to an average of Rs 400 crore. While the initial two seasons recorded over 4% television viewership rating, that declined towards the last season.
Advertisers' interest remained tepid too. According to experts, the number of advertisers fell from 66 in season four to 58 in the fifth edition. Official broadcasting channel Set Max, which sold out nearly 100% of its ad inventories in previous seasons, was left with 20% of its inventories unsold during season 5. "Advertisers need to get into it with a long-term horizon, which is exactly what the ground sponsors are doing. If Pepsi is able to activate this association with smart communication strategy then surely IPL will get a new life," Navin Khemka, managing partner at Zenith Optimedia, said. "Whenever a new sponsor comes on board, it is bound to create a buzz with intensive activation plans. Pepsi will hopefully engage the youth in a new way now and bring a new life into IPL," said Neerav Tomar, MD and CEO, IOS Sports & Entertainment.

Watson left for Sydney Monday to be with his wife. Watson, 31, James Pattisnon, Usman Khawaja and Mitchell Johnson were sidelined controversially from the third cricket Test in Mohali for breach of discipline.
Soon after the punishment was announced, Watson left for Sydney. But before rushing to the Chandigarh airport, the 31-year-old Watson made his displeasure clear and said he was weighing his Test future.
The Watson couple were expecting their first child later this month, and Watson was scheduled to skip the fourth Test in Delhi from March 22. He is now expected to return to India for the final Test of the series.
Australia skipper Michael Clarke has also suggested that he wants his deputy back at the earliest

kxip to begin online sale of tickets for home matches
The tickets for Kings XI Punjab's home matches in the sixth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) will be up for sale from Thursday in Mohali.
The tickets can also be bought online at www.kxip.in or www.bookmyshow.com
A total of eight matches are to be played as home games of which six will be hosted in Mohali, a release from the organisers said.
The tickets will be available at the box office at Phase 9, Mohali and a number of other designated places in the city like select Caf Coffee Day outlets and Hot Millions from March 15 onwards.
Kings XI Punjab match tickets can also be booked by dialing 0172-39895050. Fans shall also have the option to avail the 'home delivery' option.
Ticket denominations range from INR 400 to Rs 12,000.

American sensational singer Jennifer Lopez has turned down IPL 6. Reveals a source, “She (Jennifer) was supposed to come to India with a 45 member team to perform at the IPL 6 on April 2, 2013 but now she has turned down the offer.”
“It seems the monies offered to her did not excite her enough. The only people so far confirmed to perform at the opening ceremony are the ‘Jab Tak Hain Jaan’ duo – SRK and Katrina Kaif.”
With or without Jennifer Lopez, the entertainment quotient will not be any way less, like last year, this year too our Bollywood stars will show their jalwa. IPL Chairman, Rajeev Shukla said, “The Opening Ceremony of the Pepsi IPL 2013 will be one of the most spectacular events ever witnessed, in keeping with what will follow in the tournament itself, over the following seven weeks.”

Ponting to lead Mumbai Indians in IPL-6
Mumbai Indians, in consultation with its newly appointed Chief Mentor Kumble, Head Coach John Wright along with icon player Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, announced the appointment of Ricky Ponting as the teams’ new Captain.
The former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting was awarded to Mumbai Indians at the recently held auction in Chennai. Ricky Ponting will lead the experienced Mumbai Indians side for the IPL 2013.
Commenting on the decision, Chief Mentor Anil Kumble said, “Ricky has a lot of experience to lead a competitive and a high-profile side like Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Sachin readily agreed to my suggestion that Mumbai Indians is best served when he leads the batting unburdened by the rigours of captaincy. It was our idea (Sachin and mine) to bring in Ricky as the captain of the Mumbai Indians.”

The Pepsi IPL 2013 will commence with an Opening Ceremony on the evening of Tuesday, 2 April 2013, at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata. The IPL has signed Red Chillies Entertainments Pvt Ltd as promoters for the Opening Ceremony.
